Student Finder is the fastest way to search for users connected to your school or organization, and it includes the ability to export your data as an Excel spreadsheet. This article covers search strategies, Saved Groups, and the Reset Password feature.
Search Strategies
1. Optional Filters - When you open Student Finder you'll see the full list of users connected to your organization at the bottom of the page. The optional filters at the top of the page allow you to search based on several criteria:
- A. Select Graduation Years
- Graduation Year is based on the selection users have stored in their CFNC.org account. Users can provide this at the time of account creation or edit it later in My Dashboard > My Profile. The list of options for filtering is based on the Graduation Year of users connected to your school or organization. This means Graduation Year years will vary between schools and organizations.
- B. Select Age Range
- Age is calculated by the date of birth users have stored in their CFNC.org account. Users can provide this at the time of account creation or edit it later in My Dashboard > My Profile.
- C. Select Gender
- Gender is based on the gender selection users have stored in their CFNC.org account. Users can provide this at the time of account creation or edit it later in My Dashboard > My Profile.
- D. Select Race or Ethnicity
- Race and ethnicity are based on the selections users have stored in their CFNC.org account. Users can provide this at the time of account creation or edit it later in My Dashboard > My Profile.
- E. Saved Groups
- You can create user groups and save them to use for filtering. See Saved Groups below for more details.
2. Search Columns - Instead of the using filters at the top of the page, you can search on any field shown in the columns including Last Name, First Name, CFNC Username, Student Number (if the user has it stored in their CFNC.org account), and Grad Year.
3. Sort Columns - You can sort your columns in ascending or descending order by clicking the column title. The arrow next to the column title will indicate ascending or descending order, and you can change the order by clicking again.

Saved Groups
There are three steps to creating and accessing a Saved Group:
- Choose your filters at the top of the Student Finder page and click Submit. At the bottom of the screen you will then see the total number of users who meet your criteria as well as the user data divided into columns.
- Click the Save as Group button, type the name of your group in the Enter Group Name dialog box that opens, and click Save.
- You can access your Saved Groups as a filter by a) clicking on Saved Groups in the left navigation, or b) selecting the name of your group from the Saved Groups dropdown box in Student Finder. Please note that Saved Groups is for individual ProTools users, so others within your school or organization will not see your Saved Groups.

Reset Password
Please note that not all ProTools users have this feature since access is controlled at the Administration level for each school or organization.
You can assist your users who have forgotten their passwords by using the Reset Password feature. It will trigger an email with a link that enables them to reset their password. This will go to the email address they have stored in their CFNC.org account.
- Click Reset Password.
- Click Send Email button.
